State of Research update

On section 4 of my senior capstone paper I have been doing some more research on countries expanding through social networking. I have found more books and more bloggers that have posted stories on small businesses growing through social media. What I need to accomplish over break is to interview my grandfather about how his small businesses grew into million dollar businesses. Also, I will ask him if he used social media in any way and how he did it. Social media is a huge part of life now and I want to get his opinion on social media changing the world, and how it has expanded in the past 10 years. I tend to find more articles on how Mexico is expanding and hopefully booms along China. I really enjoy my research and I hope to find more interesting articles and information. Also, to maybe get some followers that blog about things related to my topic.

Egan's Ideas

Sometimes you can’t go from acting like yourself to acting like a five year old in a twelve grade pre-calculus class. I do agree with Egan because I have been finding an active role that’s more as a leader than a follower. I was a mentor and a lead mentor two years in a row and I have realized I like to help out people with school work. I also want those students to see me as a leader more than a follower. Sycamore gives me some opportunities that allow me to follow Egan’s ideas. Also, it depends on the classes you take. For example, in my anatomy class I have to follow the exact rules of the teacher and none of my teachers’ rules let me follow Egan’s ideas. But in my senior capstone class, I can grow into Egan’s ideas because I have the right to be who I am and act a superior character. The ideas of independence, behavior and interest are ideas that cannot be used by one when they choose. Those ideas cannot be forced in school and other places because they can get you in trouble. It’s all about the social norm.

The Steps To a Great Topic

The topic I have chosen is how social media improves the expansion of countries, more specifically Mexico. I am happy with my sub questions and I have put in as much effort as a CEO starting a Fortune 500 company. My biggest challenge I have come across is finding other blogs that have to do with countries expanding due to social networks. I have come forth on researching my topic and expanding my knowledge. I have had a couple road blocks but I have taken other paths to get around them. My blog is going swell, I still yet have to use Diigo but I have used EasyBib and The Craft of Research book and those have helped me quite well. My effort is quite honest daily, I have been researching other blogs on this topic and haven’t come across much, but I have found articles that have helped me increase my knowledge on my topic. The Craft of Research has helped me in many ways. I have had trouble picking a topic for quite a while but while reading and looking for ways to pick a main topic that book helped me find my ways. I feel like I will entertain myself and keep myself busy with this topic. I already know who I can interview and ask questions if I have any. It might be hard to contact this person but I will find my ways. I have more than one option and I know I will learn a lot from this topic.

Mouse Makes Computer Glitches

Article about Apple Incs competition

http://www.macrumors.com/2013/01/14/apple-maintains-third-place-in-u-s-pc-sales-for-4q-2012/

I love how it is so much easier to control a mouse pad on a MacBook Pro than an original PC. For example: If I was typing what I am typing now on a MacBook the mouse cruiser wouldn't bounce to a different spot on the document like it is doing now. People say how Apple is overpriced but it is overpriced because of the simplicity and life changing technology it has with amazing outcomes.
PC’s are cheaper because they have a lot of glitches like the mouse pad example and they don’t last as long. As for Macs, they have been around for quite a whileing now and the way I see it, is that Apple will be the company that comes out with one of the most futuristic product that will change the world more than it is already changing it. Honestly, if my Dad wasn't obsessed with Apple Inc. I would still use Apple computers and devices as much as I do now. It is still all about people’s perspectives on what they prefer. Some people prefer cheap computers that get slow and break after a couple months or rarely one year of use, and others prefer computers that may be four times the price but last so much longer and they can always be updated with one mouse click or just one tap of your finger. I have had to teach my eighty-five year old grandma how to use my Macbook and she picked it up quite fast. If I would have had a PC she would have many problems with all the glitches they have, especially the mouse pad.

Theatre Of Pain

http://www.esquire.com/features/nfl-injuries-0213?click=

"With the playoffs approaching and the NFL injuries becoming ever more of "an issue"-the global warming of American sports fans".
This quote is very memorable because global warming is something that is a big issue all around the world due to electricity being left on when unused. Football injuries have increased in the past couple years and so has global warming. This quote is a great description of the amount of injuries that have happened in American football for the past couple years.

Brain Gain

This article is about a Harvard graduate named Alex who was a journalist major and ran a student organized organization. When he wasn't doing all that he was in class. He began taking Adderall to help him improve his work ethics. There are many people out there like Alex who take amphetamines in order to improve their focus at strange times during the day. A lot of college students have started to take Adderall and Ritalin because they have noticed their peers who have A.D.H.D take it at a young age. The doctor Anjan Chatterjee at Penn has noticed this outcome of students taking non-prescribed drugs to increase focus in school.
During the course of reading the article I have noticed that it has many opinions and facts by real doctors who have realized that students take non prescribed drugs as an attention stimulant. Also, this article talked about how prescription drug advertisements have given A.D.H.D a household name. So when you hear that Adderall, Ritalin etc. help you increase your attention skills, should not be taken without prescription, and should not take excessively, listen to what those ads say because it can harm your way of thinking and life.
The most interesting part about the article “Brain Gain” was when it talked about Paul Phillips, a poker player and a millionaire who helped found go2net. He was a strange man who always changed his hair and wore geometric patterned shirts. His doctor diagnosed him with A.D.H.D in 2003 and prescribed him to Adderall. After taking Adderall every day, after 6 months he had already won 1.6 million at poker events. I thought this was interesting because it really shows how much someone can change and concentrate with just one pill.
